Re: weighoff requirements
Gang,
I have been an official at Topsfield for a few years. Nobody will allow
you to cut their pumpkin apart to determine if a crack goes through. The
grower gets the benefit of the doubt if the crack does not expose the seed
cavity. Any captan paste or plugs must be removed prior to inspection by the
judges. If a tiny hole or crack is suspect, a slender probing device may be
GENTLY inserted to see if the hole goes through to the interior. We are not
talking about applying pressure or jabbing anyones pumpkin with a needle.
There are non invasive ways to determine if water has been added to a pumpkin
for purposes of cheating. Anyone who is an official at a site can e-mail me
privately and I will explain the techniques. Very simple and effective.
