post hole digger

Chris I think it was Norm Craven who digs a four foot by four foot hole in
the fall fills the bottom with compost and manure. this spring I put one
post hole under each planting. I put one bag of composted manure in each
hole. your idea for tilling 2 feet deep is brilliant. I have been working
around farm fields a large part of my life the head lands seem to be
stunted do to compacting of the soil from heavy equipment. our yards are
also heavily compacted from foot traffic of the last hundred years. last
year I piled a two foot hill. the roots I dug up had to be 1 and a half
feet. the roots were main and tap roots close to the main root. the other
reason that your tilling deep with a post hole auger is a great idea is it
creates a under ground holding pool for moisture this holding pool could be
very important to people in hot climates. maybe the roots don't go so deep
because the soil is to hard. maybe we should try going deeper around the
main and along its future path. thanks Chris in Clinton Ontario
