Hurricane Floyd
Jon-I dont know too much about the souther growers but its very windy here
and we've had over 5 inches of Rain so far.(Here is Long Island new
York).Heavier winds are expected this evening and another 1-2 inches of rain
is currently forecasted.
Yesterday they said 8-12 inches of rain was expected...over two full days.I
guess it picked up speed or something.I went out and cut the mains on my
738*Stellpflug and my 879*Rockwell figuring to call it a season instead of
splitting everything at the last minute. The 738* was done basically...a hard
rind and showing signs of splitting and repairing with every little watering
so I cut the main.If I had known it was only going to rain one day-6"- I
would have left the rockwell alone or only cut a few secondaries off...it
still had some room to grow and didn't show anysigns of splitting all
season.(WHAT? an Anderson 815 progeny w/o a splitting problem??????).
Hurricane Floyd...just another bump in the roller coaster ride called Giant
Squash Growing.......but,I think I'm getting
sick...................................G
ps.....as far as the south is concerned,it did chase my in-laws inland 6
hours for a hotel room...hee-hee-hee........hurricanes aren't ALL bad!
