Re: New To List

Welcome, Sydney --
I belong to several mailing lists so don't generally notice when one is a
little slow. This list archives all its messages at:

Very good reference material. You can look up recent posts which you might
like to do to see what's been discussed recently. Or you can look up posts by
month and year or by subject.
You will find everyone here very polite and helpful.

I would like to make a couple suggestions of web sites where you can look up
seed starting info:

The Thompson & Morgan Seed Germination Database -
I probably use this one more than anything else.
    http://www.backyardgardener.com/tm.html

Tom Clothier's site has lots of valuable info on all aspects of seed starting
including the all-valuable germination info for annuals, biennials and
perennials.

Did I hear you say "This is no help at all since I don't speak Latin!"
Here is an index to help you find the Latin name:

There are many other sites as well but these are what I use the most.

Where do you plan to do all of your growing? In your basement under lights?
I winter a few things over under fluorescent lights. And I have 12 shelves
with shop lights that I use for growing my seedlings. I am very lucky -- I
found a lot of adjustable shelving that Best Buy threw out when they
remodeled!!

Have you talked to any local nurseries to see if they would buy from a small
local grower? I know of a few small growers who sell their plants at the
local farmer's markets. One small grower I know supplies outlets in small
towns around her where they don't have the ability to buy from the large
wholesalers. And you may try contacting some of the local growers in your
region and see if you can work out something with them.

Just some thots.
Hope they help you in some way,
Best Wishes --
