Re: New To List

Hello Sydney, pleased to make your aquaintance.

No, it isn't always quite so quiet. Sometimes it is actually very noisy.
Well, not really. But ask a question and you should see some discussion
generated. I note that you have potentially posed no less than 6
questions, including the obvious, "Is this list always this quite?".

I suppose you've already purused Dr. Deno's books? They're not, imo, the
last word in seed germinating, but they provide a pretty nice starting
point. Tom Clothier I think??? maintains a seed germinating data base as
well. As for selling your products to local business, I might recommend
the book: "How to Start on a Shoestring and Make a Profit with
Hydroponics". This book is obviously oriented to hydroponics, but has
excellent information related to marketing your plants. It is written by
Hilmur L. Saffell, is in at least it's 3rd ed (though that hardly makes a
book good or bad, any more than its cover does), ISBN is 0-9637066-3-2 for
the softcover 3rd ed. I believe I got my copy from amazon.com.

JL Hudson's catalog is another interesting source of information, seeds,
and trivia. The fact that he supports anarchy is only icing on the cake.
His suggested reading of "The Match" is not worth following up, in my
opinion. Mr. Hudson's catalog may be requested at:

J L Hudson, seedsman
Star Rt 2, Box 337
La Honda, CA 94020, USA

He has no web site, and in fact no telephone. He also has an address
expressly for catalog orders, but I am not familiar with it. The above
address works fine, and is where seed orders may be directed as well.

You might also stop by the web sites of a number of our list members. My
own is located at: http://ethnobotany.yage.net and my links page may be
accessed at: http://ethnobotany.yage.net/links.html

You will find links to Tom Clothier's site, as well as a few other
interesting places there. Incidently anyone on the list who wishes to be
cross linked from my site, feel free to email me. Likewise, I appreciate
all traffic directed my way, unless perhaps you run a porn site. :)

I might take a moment to recommend the mint list, information available at:
http://www.topica.com/lists/list_mint
The traffic on this list is very light, but the level of expertise
available there is exceptional, and the noise to signal ratio of the
messages that are exchanged is a pleasant change from what is found in so
many corners of the internet. This is not however, meant to imply anything
about this list, which is also of very good quality, in my not so humble
opinion.

My apologies if I've simply regurgitated material with which you were
already familiar. I am in no way assoiated with any of the references
supplied above beyond the capacity of a satisfied customer or subscriber.
The exception is of course my own web site, which is relatively new, and
which does not generate income.

Thanks for flying!

of conversation. I was really looking forward to learning about the
techniques used to encourage seeds to germinate. I am a stay-at-home Mom
with a background in field botany in southeast Oklahoma. I would like to
learn to grow wildflowers from seed and other techniques and, if
successful, possibly sell to local nurseries. I've done some browsing
through the archives so I know there really is a group of people out there
discussing the subject. Is this list always this quite?
