Re: Make your own moss

Ref: Make your own moss.

I grow several kind of mosses, and all tricks with milk, or beer will not be
any good.
If you want to get a green 'aged' look for stone or concrete, indeed milk or
yughort
will increase this effect, but it are "algae" that will start growing and
color the surface (of course you must place it in a shaded humid position).

I agree with the suggestions about sphagnum mosses and also for growing
other mosses you need the right conditions, which are in most cases a humid
soil, or a place that is watered very regularly, and the right soil
conditions for the type of moss you are looking at. In most cases they
prefer a compacted soil that does not allow water to penetrate into the
ground (or only very slowly).
So you create an ideal humid microclimate for the mosses.
When you plant a few moss plants on this surface, it might take some time to
see they are doing well, but as soon as they start to multiply, they can
cover several square feet in one growing season.
Think about 'nature conservation legislation' when collecting mosses...

Good growing...
