No, I did not punch holes.  I don't have any accurate way to tell you how
much moisture but, I added water a bit at a time to get it moist, but not
wet.  I looked through the clear bottom to be sure no water pooled.  One
time I had too much water - I could tell because the condensation built up
very thickly, so I just removed the lid for awhile.  This was with tender
perennial cuttings like Osteospurmum, Coleus.  This is a very handy way to
make cuttings.  It sits on my light stand for the needed light.  Since it is
in the house I don't bother with a heating pad under it.
