germination test results

I did a personal test on germination of seeds mainly to see what seed
company I'd get the best results with. Yes it is all scientifically
documented. Anyone who wants the results I can copy it and send it to them
snail mail. I bought the same species and hybrids (aquilegia, Primula,
meconopsis, etc,) from 3 different seed co. Chiterns (from England) Plant
World (from England) and T&M. all seeds where handled and propagated
Identically. the results were not what I expected. Being a bit bias against
English seed co.( not anymore) I expected poor germination from chilterns
and Plant World and superb from T&M. In most cases T&M was half or less
germ. rate where Chiltens and plant world were 85-97% for the same exact
seed species or hybrid. For the "common" plant seeds (ann. lobelia,
Impatients Hybrids, Pansy hybrids, etc.) I bought from T&M, Parks, local
seed stores, and cheapy on sale seeds at dime stores. Again all the same
hybrids and did a comparison seed germ. study. Parks 87-100% germ. seed
store seed 80-97% germ. Dime store seed 90-100% germ T&M 47-83% germ. I was
shocked at the results. I have a nursery but prefer to experiment with seed
germination and propagation techniques. Yes I counted every seed from every
seed package (that's a whole story and study in itself) I have been in this
business for over 26yrs. I mainly gather and store my own seed(yes I also
preform test results on these) Some species and native plants can be harder
to germinate. I still occasionally buy from T&M but I also plan on the
lower germ. rate so it works out ok for me. Whatever my two-bits are worth.
