Good point. I've had this discussion with veggie seed savers many times.
You cannot realistically maintain biodiversity with a dozen plants of each
species in your backyard. You are making the same point --- and a very
valid one --- in distinguishing between wild collected and open-pollinated
seed.
And then there's the differences between inbreeders and outbreeders ...
