"List owner" is a term of art for the person who administers a list. He is
the person who plows through the daily drudgery of maintaining the list, a
chore that members usually are only vaguely aware of. A list owner is also
the person who defines the tone of the list. As such, he has near
dictatorial powers, usually applied benignly, sometimes like a martinet.
Nevertheless the listowner has the authority to do pretty much whatever he
pleases.
I think Duncan is doing a fine job here, trying to keep order with a fairly
light hand.
