Re: Chemical products to enhance root cuttings?

Ah...lest we forget all life and activities in the environment are chemical
 ;-)

but to make a clear point.......Consistency is why one might opt for
synthetic compounds. What willow species you use, when twigs are
collected, how the solution is prepared, how stored for how long, how long
the cuttings are soaked are all variables that commercial propagators don't
need to add into an already difficult situation. Now for the person only
desiring a few plants, and where time and space do not equal income and
business survival...then willow water is fine. I have used it in
experiments myself and found it useful but consistency and predictability
is the name of the game in large scale propagation.

Differences between Rootone -- a talc powder carrier and Dip N Gro -- a
liquid solvent carrier is that different plants respond differently to how
the root inducing compounds are applied. There is also a possible
sensitivity to the solvents (alcohol or DMSO-dimethyl sulfoxide) in some
brands of liquid formulations. These solvents though may make for better
uptake and improved rooting response in some species.

tossing in my "commercial" 2 cents in
