"Or make a trip down to your local library, especially for the most
general questions that should be addressed with basic research!"
Dear Amy, in the real world, most local libraries are woefully inadequate
for many research projects. The public libraries in our communities have
very little financial resources to purchase new books and most of those on
the shelves
are woefully out of date. Many good books are already checked out or
stolen. The same also goes for periodicals, of which the number of
subscriptions
had decreased in the past few years. I can't begin to tell you the amount of
time that I've wasted in public libraries seeking basic information.
With regards to academic libraries, the onee that I am affiliated with
professionally
have very little information in the science department for the hobbyist or
just plain curious.
Across town, I cannot have access to the libraries at the public
universities because I am neither
student nor faculty.
So, libraries vary from region to region. Amy, I sure wish I could go to
your library!!
