Re: Seed Collection of Scillias, Grape Hyacinth, Anemone de Caen


Tim,

I happen to have grape hyacinths in my yard. My personal opinion is that
they are weeds. Once they get established you will have a tough time
controlling them. Unlike other flowers that grow from bulbs, grape hyacinths
have very small bulbs, ranging from 1/8 to 1/2 inch in diameter. They seem
to spread by seed and bulb division. Nevertheless, if you really want them
in your yard, the seed will be ready soon after the flowers have dried up.
The seeds are black and about 1.5 to 2 mm in diameter. I suggest you watch
the flowers closely after they are dry and check them regularly.
