Re: Sweet grass

Dear Margaret,
Not an easy grass to germinate, but not impossible. You will need to separate
the seed from the covering by rubbing it and soaking in water for a day
will aid in germination. Then sow at 70 and be patient. This plains Indian
grass ( sweet vernal ) was used by the Indians in religious ceremonies and
has a wonderful fragrance that the Indians used to bathe in with the smoke
after burning it. This grass may benefit from burning to aid with the
germination as it seems to grow in thicker and heavier on the plains after a
fire.
