Re: Garden Design Software ?

I've never really looked at any gardening software inparticular, but
I'll comment anyway. (Consider that a disclaimer). What your friend
needs to do is sit down and consider what he wants out of his software.

Any software requires certain inputs, and yields certain outputs. The
inputs should generally be about the same for each of the software
packages, and I would guess these would include things such as
enviromental conditions, square footage of garden, shape of garden, etc.
He may want to take a few minutes to see if there is a big difference
between the inputs allowed for each package. One that requires he input
what species he'd like to plant is more likely to be expensive, and
require more work on his part, but will (should) also yield a much more
detailed final plan.

More important is the outputs, IMO. How are the results displayed? How
does he want to have the results displayed?

Of course of paramount importance in the ease of use, and that, I'm
afraid, can only come from actually using the program. Since I've
already admitted I've never used any of this software, I'm ill equipped
to vote one over the other. Incidently, what I am afraid of is people
who eat too many beans. I'm also afraid that I badly butchered the
punctuation on my last post.

Anyway, hopefully someone here can offer better information on the
ease-of-use (user friendly-ness) of some of these titles.

Thanks for flying!
