Art,
I, too, recently searched for garden design software. I ultimately
bought a $50.00 (w/ $20 rebate) copy of Sierra Complete LandDesign. I
like it, I don't love it. The newer release supposedly has some of the
problems addressed. The "Complete" includes a garden encyclopedia, 3D
deck and Photo Land Design. I also bought, on a whim, Expert Landscape
Design 3D, for $10 which isn't all that bad for the $$ (tho' I probably
wouldn't pay more). Instead of going on about all the pros & cons here
I will direct you to some sites which helped in my decision:
Sierra: http://www.igarden.co.uk/listsw.htm
They also have a message board you may want to peruse:
http://www.expertsoftware.com/landscape_design_3D.htm it's a good site
to hear what users have to say about Sierra products.
Expert: http://www.expertsoftware.com/landscape_design_3D.htm
http://www.flowerscape.net/
Comparison site from Great Britain: http://www.igarden.co.uk/listsw.htm
http://www.fasttrak.co.uk/home/index.html
You can also download a 30 day trial version of Landscape Illustrator at
the following site. This is a professional software and costs between
$600 - $800 depending on package: http://www.lsisoft.com/prod.html
hope this helps! Have fun!!
