Two questions: who has any ideas on working with slow germinating
seeds. I sow them in vermiculite and cover loosely with plastic wrap to
keep everything moist, but I don't think I've ever had any luck with
seeds taking over about 30 days to sprout.
My second question is peripheral but fervent: How to get rid of yucca
plants. My tiny city garden was originally totally overgrown with
ancient yuccas and ivy. I dug up the massive yucca roots, then had
someone dig even further down about 3 1/2 feet. Everything was then
doused with RoundUp. Again and again and again. Meanwhile I planted the
garden around old slate flagstones. The yucca is coming up under the
slates. I have painted the new shoots individually with Dragon Super
Brush Killer. This is evil stuff, but it is touted as being the answer
even for bamboo and kudzu. It has slowed the yucca down, but it just
comes back up someplace else.
I realize this isn't directly connected with seed propagation, but
unless I get the yucca under control, I won't have any space to put the
plants I have grown from seed. See the connection? Any suggestions would
be greatly appreciated.
