Marianne and Margaret I agree with you two. Very Much! I find such a
miracle how one tiny seed can turn into a large beautiful plant. I myself
enjoy saving seeds from my favorite flowers, herbs and vegetables for
myself and for fellow gardening friends. In fact their is a very nice
lady down the street from me who has a flower that she just loves (she
isn't sure what it is). She got the seeds from a friend who got the seeds
from her by her grandmother before she died. This fall she is going to
give some seeds to me and I am going to give her some of my black crim
tomato seeds. Now this is illegal?!? How can that be if we grew the pants
our selfs? The seeds are or should be ours to use as we please. Has
anyone ever herd of the World Seed Foundation? They work to bring third
world companies life giving seeds. Only open pollinated seeds can change
the lack of resources for millions of starving people around the world.
Only open-pollinated (non-hybrid) seeds are of any value to these people.
If properly planted, cared for and saved for planting the following year
these varieties can do so much more to solve world hunger than hybrid
seeds which must be purchased each year only causing more dependance on
other countries. This is one of the most greedy things that we can do to
hurt these people. Almost worse than doing nothing at all. In the long
run I feel that we will be hurting our selfs as well. This will
eventually come back to us when seeds that are not genetically altered
are more and more scare and their are fewer and fewer seeds that can be
replanted causing a diminishing food supply as the population continues
to grow. :-(
