It is interesting - and encouraging to me - that only 2 list members have objected
to the genetic engineering discussion on the seedslist.
The connection - and relevance - of the genetic engineering discussion to a list
devoted to plant propagation is pretty obvious. The assumption that people
interested in plant life have more than a passing interest in what is being done
in biotech is hardly far-fetched.
At several points, posters on the genetic issue have said, "contact me for more
info." There have been only a few long posts. This is not a breach of list
etiquette by any stretch of the imagination.
I personally feel that it is precisely the folks on a list like this who, as
educated laymen, should be exploring the issue and raising the tough valid
questions about this technology, each in their own community.
