Yes, there are many plants in the sunflower family that are perennials,
they are relatives to the annual sunflowers but are not the same. In my
experience, they tend to grow between six and eight feet tall and spread by
rhizomes or underground roots to about as wide. Some are dense while some
are very open and airy. I have a few different types (I don't recall
which) in my yard. Here in California, they die back in the late winter,
and re-emerge in the Spring and Summer. Some can get out of control... I
suggest you do a search on www.hotbot.com for the one you are asking about.
