Hi Adrienne:
I start alot of annuals and perennials and this years was my first
attempt at zinnias. I have never had must success at starting anything
from seed straight into the ground so everything I try I put into seed
trays and use a greenhouse (or a small portable avaiable for $5.00 at
any gardening store). I found that Zinnias, of the varieties I tried had
spotty germination, with one type having only ten out of two hundred
seeds germinate(ideal conditions). I do not have much experience with
them so I do not know if this is normal.

Hope this info was of some help!
