Bromeliad seeds

Hi all-
I have a purple/green bromeliad (the purple and green are in 1" or so
horizontal strips on the leaves) - I cannot find the botanical at the moment
but will continue to try to find. Anyway - back in the spring this bromeliad
gave me the most wonderful bloom....when the bloom faded I neglected to cut
off the bloom spike. This morning while watering I noticed that the bloom
spike had "exploded" with feathering little seeds. Since the bromeliad is in
a protected spot the seeds were still attached. Does anyone have any
suggestions/information/experience on the germination of bromeliad seeds?
And does anyone know if they will be true?
Thanks in advance
