I had good luck in germinating some maple seeds by placing the seeds in a
zip-lock bag with barely moist, coarse milled sphagnum moss and placing in
the veg crisper drawer of my 'frig. The seeds may begin to germinate by
late winter, early spring or if not by then, they will germinate when the
bag is removed from the 'frig in May.
The zip-lock bag method is my favorite and works for many types of seeds,
particularly larger ones. One advantage is that it allows observation of
the seeds and removal upon germination.
