I use a toenail clippers (that look like a cutters) and simply nick off one of
the ends.  All the seed needs is a tiny hole through the seedcoat for the water
to come in, & swell up the seed, so it can shrug off the seedcoat, itself.  I
have heard of germinating (soaking overnight) seeds in strong tea mixture, also
giberrellic acids, etc but the best for me is warm water overnight.  Hope this
