Here is what I found in my trusty A--Z: Acalypha wilkesiana AKA Copperleaf,
Firedragon, Jacob's Coat and Match -me -if-you-can. The photo looks like what
you've described. Alternate oval lvs multicolored, mottled, often variegated.
It bears catkin like racemes 4-8 'long, usually green or copper tinted &
often hidden among the lvs periodically throughout the year. Grows to 6' and
hails fr Pacific Islands. Grow in fertile, humus-rich, moist but well
drained soil in sun or partial shade. Plant is tender, could be damaged at
temps. below F. 50
                                            Propagation: divide rhizomatous
or clump forming species in spring. Root softwood cuttings in early spring,
semi-ripe in late summer with bottom heat. Hope this helps. It looks
gorgeous, though I would keep checking sources to confirm it's identity.
