<< Merry Christmas to you all --
I received some seed pkts from Thompson & Morgan this week.
One of the items was Campanula Latifolia Amethyst.
The seed pkt says germination can take 1-3 months at 65-70F.
Is there anything I can do to speed up the process?
I suspect the seed is quite fine.
Will hot water help as suggested for the Asclepias?
Thank You and Best Wishes --

Barbara - The seed is two small for presoaking and soaking will not help
that much if you could do it.
Some chilling might help-take a small amount of seed starting mix-say about
Teaspoon and add enough moisture to make it only damp-NOT wet.
Add the seeds and put in a small ziplock bag and put in the fridge for three
weeks.
After the three weeks-thinly spread out the seeds over the surface of your
sowing container and cover with a sheet of glass or clear plastic.
The largest problem I have with small seeds like Campanula is that they dry
out and kill the seeds or seedlings-so the covering has increase my successes
by hundreds fold.
As a side note-the reason many seeds have long drawn out germination periods
is because of moisture availability in the wild-some seeds will germinate in
the spring and others every few weeks until fall -- this way they are bound
to find a time period were they can relie on enough moister to get started.
