Dawn,
Jewel of Opar is Talinum as stated before. Here is the write up in an old
copy of Carroll Gardens. Talinum mengesii, Zone 5-9, Native wildflower
with cerise pink 1/4" cupped blooms on wiry stems in midsummer, followed
by maroon colored seed caps. Succulent fleshy 2" cylindrical leaves.
Likes full to part sun in average soil. Height is up to 2 feet, spread is
about a foot.
I grow this in my zone 6 garden with no invasive problems. It appears to
be annual and reseeds itself in a few places. Very charming and easy to
grow. I plant the seeds in spring under grow lights at the same time that
I plant other early seedlings. Set out after last frost.
Nina in PA6
