I took a look at the page. Honestly I do not understand the principle.
The author says that it takes a long time (ie: 3/4-1 hour) to use
traditional methods to make a layer. What method is being used???
We have been successful taking peat moss...throughly soaking a batch over
nite in water to drench, or use coco fiber (like the type used for potting
orchids). Then we take a square of household aluminum foil ... 8x8" or so.
Then just make a wound at the cutting stem site using a sharp knife. Take
the damp moss (which at this time should stick together) and make a bundle
around stem then cover with the foil. Even not being experts we have done a
couple of dozen layers an hour.

Since we prefer to use rooting hormones .... sometimes we presoak the media
with liquid water based rooting hormone or use a brush to cover the wound
with dry powder ... then cover with media. One of our customers a major
ficus grower in southern Florida probably does 30 an hour by this method.

regards
Joel
