In my somewhat limited experience, no treatment was necessary. The only
problem that had was finding a persimmon with seeds to germinate! There
seem to be two types of the Japanese persimmon found in our grocery stores
here. An acorn shaped type (I can't remember the name of the two types),
in which I seem to find no seeds, and a more flattened type in which I find
an occasional seed. However, I rarely find this last type in the stores
here in Milwaukee. In any case, it matters little, since the Japanese type
is really not hardy here in Wisconsin - thus I'm growing one of the self
-fertile D.americana hybrids called 'Meader'.
