You betcha! I swear by it. I've used it before, and received plants
grown in it, and it is dynamite! For those unfamiliar with it, the pots
(from plug tray size to any unlimited size) is painted on the interior
with a copper based mixture. As the roots grow out to touch the pot,
the copper kills the growing tip. Lateral roots spring out from farther
up the root length. It is similar to the same technique of pinching out
growing tips to get side branching. Anyway, what you get is a VERY
fiborous root system with NO spiraling around the pot.
I am a very firm believer of root systems. I've seen people cringe over
pot bound plants. Not me. (At least, not if it is a perennial.
Annuals are a different story.) Roots grow plants. Give me a pot of
roots and I'll make a plant. Give me leaves with few roots and it's
doomed.
Anyway, in doing my inventory, I am now able to separate out all the
different sized pots I need, and the quantities of each, and I am
ordering Spin-Out treated pots for the majority of my plants this
year. The wholesale price difference is pennies per pot.
For the uninformed, if you knock out a plant from a SO treated pot, you
will see no roots. But if you look at the soil, you'll see that's it's
held firm by roots within it. So don't raise Cain with the nurseryman
for selling you plants without roots.
