I got some seeds of Lonicera ciliosa from a
friend in Washington in October. There was still a lot of pulp on them, and I
cleaned them in water for a week before sowing them ( 35 seeds ) on
November 10, and putting them in the refridgerator. A month later I discarded
five of the seeds, which had started to rot, and were soft to touch. I then saw
that a radicle was starting to form in one of the seeds. December 15 six more
seeds had germinated, so starting with fresh seed it seems that approximately 1
month at 4C initiates germination in this species.
I had also sown some seeds of Lonicera hispidula
var. vacillens, which I had ordered from The Abundant Seed Foundation ( a*@olypen.com ). These I aslo
cleaned in water for 1 week before sowing in napkins and placing in the fridge.
I sowed 29 seeds on Nov 19, and by Nov. 15 seven of these had germinated,
so they have similar germination requirements as L. ciliosa, both being D(ark)4C
germinators.
No germination of L. chamissoi or L. involucrata
yet, they might require a longer period at 4C.
