In case anyone is interested, I joined the UK seed exchange last week and
got the following welcome:

      "Welcome to the plant-exchange mailing list!

       The purpose of the list is to encourage exchange of seeds or plant
       materials between UK gardeners. Due to extensive restrictions on
       movement of plant materials in or out of the UK it is not advisable to
       consider exchanging any seeds or plant materials with those outside of
       the UK."

Some welcome, huh!
