To the several of you expressing an interest in this plant:
If you find seed or plants, be informed, per "The Herb Society of America's
Encyclopedia of Herbs":
"M. officinarum is poisonous, containing a potent sedative and painkiller.
In sufficient quantities, these induce a state of oblivion, properties which
were used in early surgery. M. officinarum became an official homeopathic
preparation in 1877, and is rarely used for any other purpose today.
Internally, used FORMERLY (my caps) as a painkiller, aphrodisiac, and
treatment for nervous disorders. Externally for ulcers. For use by
qualified practitioners only. WARNING (Their caps) This herb is subject
to legal restrictions in some countries. ... Toxic if eaten."
