Does anyone have any suggestions on propagation of citrus from cuttings? I
have a Meyer Lemon (dwarf) which I would like to start some cuttings from
to give to a friend. I'm in Zone 9, and current temperatures range from
45-50 degrees (night) to 70 (day). .....

Citrus can be propagated from soft wood cuttings taken early to mid summer.
Take 4-5 leaf length.
Wound the basel end of the cutting.
- Use a dry powder rooting hormone appoximately 0.8%IBA.
(such as Rhizopon AA #3).
- Alternate use basel dip 3-5 minutees using a *water base* rooting hormone
solution at 50-100 ppm IBA ,
*Do not* use an alcohol base product because it might dehydrate the cuttings.
(such as Rhizopon AA Water Ssoluble Tablets at 1-2 tablets per liter
water). (your local
hort supplier can order Rhizopon from V-J Growers Supply 800-327-5422 or you
can order from V-J directly). If you have a problem getting supply please
contact me.
Media: 4peat: 1 sand.
Water thoughly. Cover totally with clear plastic.
Keep in light but not full sun. Leafy cuttings need light for phot synthesis
Rooting should occur in about 2 weeks.

regards
Joel Kroin
