Re: Cerinthe germination

This is probably one of the coolest list servers I've found in a
while. My name is Jared Shortman. I do a lot of growing from seed. I
experiment with all kinds of different treatments and get seeds from all
over the world. My business is fledgling but hopes are high. I grow mainly
shrubs, trees, vines, etc. from desert areas, mostly from the SW USA,
Mexico, and Africa. I am very interested in finding a seed source of South
American dry land species.

I also grow Tillandsias and other bromeliads, cacti & succulents
and an arrray of other odds and ends both as a hobby and as a business
venture. My training is both in botany and horticulture. I do a little
research on the side, mostly ethnobotanical research within the limits of
the Sonoran Desert as described by Forrest Shreve. I also do a little feild
research in Sonora, one of my favorite places on Earth. I decided a year
ago that the grant money search was not my thing and have been striving to
open my own nursery ever since. Some people say that being a scientist and
having a business too is a bad thing. I don't think so, especially since
the outcome of my research has no affect on my trade. I think people always
get a little jealous when somebody tries to make a little money.

Anyways, is there anyone dealing with South American seeds,
xeriphytic shrubs, or even tropical plants. Is Karl Kintze (spelling??)
still around???

Jared
