Barb,
Yes, you're right it only saves on lighted space .. much more expensive
than dark space and Yes, I move my seedlings twice/day. They are usually
all in trays and I move however many shelves full that I need to double up
on. I have two light stands with three shelves each and 4 trays of plants
fit on each shelf. So I start out with room for 24 trays and when I start
to move plants into larger pots I can have as many as 48 trays on the go at
once. Rarely do things get to this desparate stage unless spring is slow in
arriving. I have my light stands in the basement and I just move the
plants that are on the night shift out from under the lights ... they don't
have to be in complete darkness. Just think of all the plants that function
on 24 hour daylight in the arctic.
