Hello Peter,
From my experience I learned the following:
- after overwintering my Brugmansia's I repot them in a very rich (compost)
soil. Cut back some of the branches that dried or just to giove the plant
a better shape (to my liking). This is done by mid march
- I then put the plants at about 15°C in good light. As soon as
outside temperature aloows I harden them outside during the days (and keep
them inside at nights).
- as soon as some new leaves have developed, I start to give fertilizer
with with the water.
- by end of May the Brugmansia's stay outside permanently.
By june flowers developed on the older branches, and then on the new
branches right trough the season till end of september when I have to take
them in again.
Last year the plants were flowering till Christmas (8 - 12 °C,
some dappled light)
I discovered that the trick is to give them a good soil, water them daily (if necesssary) and fertilize them regularly (once a week) and flowers will start coming and continue ongoing (I stop using fertilizer by early september).
Regards and success !!
