I, too, use the heating pads from the pharmacy, and have had no trouble with them. They are very inexpensive and seem to last a long time. I've never burned one out yet after about 5 years. I do use ones that have a plastic/vinyl cover in the inside, and always use solid trays on them. I'm interested in the water bed heaters, though. Are they a large, bed-size mat? Never having had a water bed, I can't picture one.
