Viola pumila & V. jooi germination

Speaking of seeds that need to be sown in darkness, my mother has asked me to 
post this:

She has two Viola spp. for which no germination information seems to be 
available.   (I've looked at the germination sites already and can't find 
them.)  Does anyone know for sure what the stratification requirements for V. 
pumila and V. jooi are?  They are from T&M, and we do not entirely trust 
their instructions, which are (basically), exclude light, keep moist, if no 
germination after 1-3 months, chill until germination occurs.
