Hi Marge:
No stratification is necessary, the seed quickly loses viability.  They do 
not produce a leaf the first year, only a radicle.  I sow in peatlite/sand, pots 
are under a bench in a frost free greenhouse.  Others sow in bottomless pots 
sunk into a very protected outside area.  Either way, they are as slow, if not 
slower, than Trillium; perhaps 6-7-8-9 years before flowering. They will want 
"coolth".  Much more info is available by searching the trillium-L archives.
