If we can collectively figure out how to reliably root this plant it would
be great. At Morris Arboretum we have an individual which was originally
wild-collected and has especially large, magnicent thorns.
So far:
successes: Cuttings taken 5-17-91, placed in mist
0.1% IBA talc, 15 cuttings, 2 rooted
1,000 ppm K-IBA in water, 15 cutting, 6 rooted
failures: Cuttings taken 7-24-91
Woods 1:9 water
0.1% IBA talc
Cuttings taken 6-18-90
5,000 ppm K-IBA
Some strategies to consider in future:
Take cuttings when really soft. I might try two weeks earlier.
I am now using IBA in propylene glycol. I haven't tried that yet.
Use prop media of 70% perlite: 30% peat for good drainage.
Since then I have new mist nozzles, which are very fine droplets.
