Howdy all,
I'd like to clarify some points that there has been a lot of
confusion over in the past week. As most of you know, seeds-list
moved from eskimo.com to mallorn.com and took on a more global
name: 'propagation'.
Anyhow, due to some miscommunication between the founder of
seeds-list (Duncan McAlpine) and myself, I mistakenly thought
that Duncan was no longer interested in list ownership. I
perpetuated this misunderstanding in my messages to the list,
so I really apologize for confusing the heck out of everyone
(myself included). I will still be involved in the technical
administration of the list, however. Duncan has done a fine
job in the past, and I know that he will in our futures, too.
I am still planning on setting up another list for the exchange
of plant material. I've waited a bit because of some security
issues that needed to be dealt with at mallorn.com and I wanted
to make sure that digest members could get their $.02 in regarding
the list name.
I sure wasn't expecting the influx of messages that I got though!
Wow! I must have received 80 messages with suggestions and
comments about how the lists should be set up. Some were two
or three lines long, while others were measured in terms of pages.
I tried replying to everyone, but towards the end I was overcome
with email. :)
Some people wanted a restricted list that covered all aspects of seeds,
while others wanted general lists that would allow for all propagation
and exchanges. More people wanted the latter, and I think it's
easier to recover from an overly large list than a list that's
too small. For that reason I think that the list intended for
seed and plant material exchanges will remain as open as possible.
If we start seeing a lot of regular requests that can be categorized
I would be more than happy to start another list. And remember,
my mailbox is always open if you have comments or anything.
So, in summary:
o Duncan McAlpine is still the listowner for propagation, which
covers all aspects of propagation
o I'll be dealing with technical issues of the list
o We'll create a new list dedicated to plant exchanges
o If the new list gets too busy, we'll split it up into
dedicated lists
Now comes the fun part. You all get to vote on a name for the new
list. Send rank your top 3 votes to 'lindsey+vote@mallorn.com'

P.S. I don't think that this has been announced to this list yet, but
a while back I created a new list called 'gardenurls'. It's
basically an announce-only list that shows what new gardening
links have been added to hort.net each day along with a brief
description.
