I have heard that genetic engineering has been transferred by wind-blown
pollen. I'd call that "founded."

Whoa! Do you honestly think that the good people of the world are going to
stand by and let the millions of people in Third World countries starve to
death? Of course not. We'll buy them seed, year after year after year,
paying whatever Monsanto demands to get seeds so that zillions don't
starve. OP varieties will suddenly become terminator varieties. Save the
seeds, plant them, nothing grows. Seed is sterile. Is this the best of
all possible worlds?

That's great. Why can't they hybridize the seeds so they are reimbursed
for the cost of their research instead of killing off all natural plants?
Hybridization is ample protection for that, IMO.
