Closing The Doors

* Foster & Gallagher Inc., a direct marketer of hort. and gift products
headquartered in Peoria, Ill., announced last week that it and 21 of its
domestic subsidiaries, including Spring Hill Nurseries, Breck's and
Stark Bros. Nurseries, filed for bankruptcy protection under Chapter
11. The company plans to wind down its businesses and sell all or
substantially all of its assets. Its management team, board of directors
and bank lenders had explored a number of alternatives including
financial restructuring, operational reorganization of its core businesses
and a sale of strategic assets. F&G's Spring Hill Group, Stark Bros.
Nurseries, Michigan Bulb Group, Gurney's Group and all of their
