Dear Mary:
Justicia brandegeana is a more current name for shrimp plant than
Beleperone guttata. Do make lots of cuttings off your plant; you'll see
pure joy in the receiver's eyes of their very own shrimp plant. Several
methods work to root cuttings, my standard is to dip a cutting into
rooting hormone and insert the cutting in a small pot of 50 percent
perlite and 50 percent peat moss.
You might try leaving one of your plants outside for the winter.
Although they're strictly a houseplant in Montana, they may survive a
mild winter, USDA 8.
Best, Vicki
