plant allergies

I am quite behind on my e-mails so forgive me for bringing up an old subject.
Plant allergies are quite interesting to me as I have developed what my
physician husband terms "giant hives" on my soles and palms after working in
the garden. I have concluded that some ubiquitous pollen or plant protein is
to blame as I often suffer reactions while camping in the desert or otherwise
having close contact with soil. In case you are wondering if you have this
affliction, it is characterized by red "ring shaped" lesions on the hands and
feet that burn and itch, sometimes for days after working in the garden. It
responds slowly to diphenhydramine (BENADRYL). They may develop the day after
exposure to the offending allergen. I finally found a cure that may help some
of you who appear to have species specific reactions. The poison ivy
protectant, "Oak and Ivy" ARMOR - pre-exposure lotion. I rub the oily lotion
on my hands and feet (or you could use it on exposed skin at risk) and it
protects for hours. The company recommends you use their TECNU cleanser
afterward but I haven't needed it with my problem. However, I'm sure with
poison oak exposure, you need all the help you can get. I found the product
in my local supermarket in Oregon. Their question line is 1-800-ITCHING if
you'd like to find out how to order it.
