potting on

it has been my experience with potting on;
	a) plants who spend their live in relatively small pots
these have been primarily "house plants" and dwarf variety fruiting trees.
once their above soil size has become relatively equal or a bit fuller than
that of their home, my plants have become very unforgiving as to water and
feeding needs. with constant attention and observation they have remained
healthy and productive. forget about them for a few days or go on vacation
during the growing season and they show distress. potting on has eliminated
this fussiness.
	b) are to be planted out into the garden later
moving my perennial seedlings from sprouting cells to 4'" peat pots seems
to give them a growth boost, whereas planting them directly to the garden
causes them to hang out for about a month before they show growth
advancement. next stage is into the garden and they thrive after only a
few days. leaving these same plants in either their sprouting cells or 4"
pots past the time they have become a size in balance with their home has
caused growth to severely slow down and become as mentioned in a) above.
c) any thing else
moving any plant to a container which is substantially larger than it's
home has caused them to either never appear content no matter what i do, or
to slowly, very slowly become very unhealthy. Then trying to place them in
the proper size pot they never really do as well as they should.
