Barbara:
All species of Camassia have the same basic germination pattern: they
germinate IN THE COLD in about 9-16 weeks, depending on the species.
Try the following: which is pretty foolproof. Sometime in early
winter, mix your seeds with some moist (not wet) vermiculite, or
soil-less seed starting mix. Put the works inside a Baggie. Zip. Stick
in the back of fridge (NOT FREEZER), mark your calendar & start
peeking at the bag at around 9 weeks & thereafter every 1-2 weeks. You
will be able to see when germination has started through the clear
plastic.
Once a fair amount have germinated, dump the contents out & line the
seedlings up in a flat & grow along until it is safe to plant
outdoors. They are extremely easy to handle as small seedlings & in
fact, at every stage...
It will be a while until you see flowers, as the bulb has to develop
into a fair size before it will have enough energy to flower, but well
worth the wait.
