killing tiny critters

I am in the midst of collecting and cleaning poppy seeds and I can
see tons of tiny little critters crawling among the black seeds.
They look like little thrips or something like that (I can't really
see them but they are kind of light brown). Anyway, I was thinking
of putting the seeds in teh microwave for 10 or 20 seconds to kill
the critters but not harm the seeds. What do you think -- will that
work? Is it too long or too short a time? have you ever done that?
