Dear Anthony,

The subject of seed germination is an extensive one. Some perennials are
quite easy from seed, needing no treatment at all, others require different
methods to induce germination. Mother nature does take care of most of it,
but if there are many perennials that just do not reseed in the garden. Or
they may reseed in your neighbors garden and not yours. Some of my
columbines do reseed, other species do not. My annual poppies reseed about
(prolifically) my oriental poppies do not. Perhaps you could ask specific
questions? What plants do you have besides columbines (which are actually
aquilegia species)? Then we could address each one separately.

And if I may be so bold, you can find my series of article on seed
collecting, trading, cleaning, storing and germinating on the Perennials
site at Suite 101.
To get there, simply follow the link in my address line to Suite 101,
register (it's free) and click on the link to the perennials topic. The seed
articles are a series of 18 articles, complete with lots of links - access
them by clicking past articles from the main perennials page. They'll give
you a basic understanding of the process of germinating your own plants from
seed you've collected from your garden.

Grow well,
Amber
